Talk the Walk, Walk the Talk
Talk the walk and walk the talk is from my many years at Home Depot. It can be summarized as saying make a plan, and implement it--effectively.
This past year at Casa Guatemala was a transition year. Many changes were made. As is in all change management there were "bumps" along the road. We have learned from the changes and are now moving forward in a totally positive direction. We have a system in place now that is working well. We now need to execute our plan for the upcoming school year.
Yesterday was graduation. I must admit I had some tears to see my students pass on. Of course, I have my favorite students. I will miss the sixth graders who will move on in their lives to live the next chapter. The parents of all the children graduating were there to watch their children pass on. Of interest, was one mother giving her son a special ring ceremony as he graduated from the grade of parvulos (mainly 5 and 6 year olds). There were also many people from the local village of Brisas on hand dressed in their traditional colorful Maya wardrobes.
We are now preparing to start summer school on Monday. I will be teaching English and library. Additionally I will be a support person for the school Director. The Guatemalan teachers are on vacation until mid Jan. The volunteers will be the teachers for the summer session of school. We have a good group of volunteers and we all know our roles in taking Casa Guatemala to the next level. We are strong and I feel we are making a positive impact. There are many new projects (restoration of the hydroponic greenhouse and expansion of the clinic for example) in progress that will make us even stronger.
Namaste,
Chac
