the end of the known world is coming, the planets core is heating up, catastrophe is eminant.....bla bla bla
What is your personal opinion of this film/program, as entertainment?
I wanted to walk out about half an hour into the movie but thought I may as well see it through. two and a half hours of typical doomsday rubbish not even a decent story line for the sake of entertainment. The special effects were un-believable and all been seen before, The day after tomorrow was better than this even. Considering what they spent to make this film I think we were ripped off . The characters ere average and the story was slow. A couple of good actors but they should not have bothered as it won't be a memorable film.
What is your personal opinion of this film/program as a social and/or cultural message? Does it succeed or fail in this regard?
I was hoping that the 'Maya Prophesies' would be represented on a true and accruate level but in the back of my mind i knew it would be the usual misread message, and it was. The few references to the calendar etc were basic and didn't pay any credit to the Maya Civilization and how incredibly advanced their techniques were. The representation for our western culture was accurate however with greed and power being a strong point however the movie ended as they always do with the typical hero and lets save the people because its the right thing to do we are fellow humanbeings afterall. I think it failed in representing an accrurate portral of the Maya Calendar and what it is about but then that wasn't the purpose of the movie was it! It probably succeeded in representing how most people would react in these circumstances it defintily was an accurate portrayal of the lies and deceipt that are going on within all our governments.....
What impact do you feel the movie will likely have on the way people worldwide will perceive the Mayan Calendar?
It probably won't make much impact because it wasn't a big part of the film, there will be people who will dismiss it as rubbish and myth...BUT i did hear people commenting about the earth changes and the cycles of the planets etc and not from a fear base (as in past attempts of this kind of doom and gloom) but from the reality that it is possible and that it would be worth looking into 'this mayan stuff' a bit more.
If you had the chance to remake this film/program, what would you do differently?
I wouldn't even contemplate making a movie like this, its all been done before and I think most people are over the doom and gloom version of the end of the world. What we need NOW is a real account of what the Maya were predicting and what its really all about...
Would you recommend this film/program to your family, friends and colleagues? Why or why not?
They can decide for themselves as we are all on a journey and are at different levels of awareness, some people need to see this movie to maybe 'awaken' some memories and figure out whats really going on. My friend that saw it with me commented that "I wouldn't want to go into a new world with that sort of greed and shallow minded people, thats what got us here in the first place and its no way to start again." So interesting !!!
What would you like to say to the film's director, and/or the production studio?
Spend your money well guys, its never too late....
("2012" only) Roland Emmerich is allegedly planning a television series "post 2012". What do you think of this idea?
Not much, we'll see when he does it....
