Provide a brief description of the film/program's story plot for our readers
A typical Hollywood blockbuster movie about how the world ends when the end of the mayan calendar is reached at the end of 2012
What is your personal opinion of this film/program, as entertainment?
I watched the promos/trailers and immediately dismissed it as a film I wished to see. I have seen it before as "Independence Day" and several other films in that category. "Planet of the Apes" is another that comes to mind. I would not find it entertaining - just a way to pass a wet afternoon.
What is your personal opinion of this film/program as a social and/or cultural message? Does it succeed or fail in this regard?
It has no social or cultural message because it pays no attention to what the mayan calendar is about.
What impact do you feel the movie will likely have on the way people worldwide will perceive the Mayan Calendar?
If it has any impression other than that of a joke it will be regrettable.
If you had the chance to remake this film/program, what would you do differently?
Be less concerned for making a box office hit and recruit the help of people who have some understanding of who the Maya are and what their Calendar is really about.
Would you recommend this film/program to your family, friends and colleagues? Why or why not?
No. I like to think my friends have more taste and discretion in that they watch.
What would you like to say to the film's director, and/or the production studio?
Make a few old fashioned Westerns or musicals that entertain.
("2012" only) Roland Emmerich is allegedly planning a television series "post 2012". What do you think of this idea?
Why does he want to add another fantasy/trashy series to the multitude we are already offered on TV. It is already hard enough to find a dozen programs worth watching each week.
