Provide a brief description of the film/program's story plot for our readers
the film assigns to the year 2012 (name of film) a ataclysmic end time scenario.
What is your personal opinion of this film/program, as entertainment?
It is totally irresponsible to feed your greed by stimulating the human subconscious with fear. It is less impactful and potentially damaging to create war and monster movies, etc. than a story depictiing cataclysmic catastrophy. Having one's adrenals hyper-stimulated is NOT entertainment.
What is your personal opinion of this film/program as a social and/or cultural message? Does it succeed or fail in this regard?
It fails. I am grateful that any connection to the Mayan Calendar was so minimum that I don't remember it. Because, the Calendar is not about physical earth changes AT ALL. So, thank you for not focusing on that.
What impact do you feel the movie will likely have on the way people worldwide will perceive the Mayan Calendar?
Since I don't recall it impacting me--I was braced for it--then I'd like to think that the film won't have that much impact on Calendar understanding. Rather, news media gossip is doing far more in that regard.
If you had the chance to remake this film/program, what would you do differently?
I would stop short of contributing to helplessness. Coupling earth change devastation with the economic stress of these days, is likely contributing to the dramatic rise in suicides in several States, I'm told.
Would you recommend this film/program to your family, friends and colleagues? Why or why not?
Not without some instruction to shield themselves and to make it very clear that there is no connection between the Mayan Calendar and earth changes being brought about by mankind, or otherwise. Without this opportunity of preparation, I would advise against seeing it. Why not?!......because distorting people's emotional realms and adding to mental confusion is just as toxic as putting poisons in people's food! The film industry has a lot of license for lcentious "art." We're very guarded about First Amendment rights....in this case to our own demise.
What would you like to say to the film's director, and/or the production studio?
Do a project to offset the negativity of 2012. Maybe it would be a box office risk, but create a love story about beauty and love for our planet. The need to to cease being abusive toward our earth home! It is far more responsible to do the right thing than at the risk of lower box office sales than to contribute to mental illness and violence.
("2012" only) Roland Emmerich is allegedly planning a television series "post 2012". What do you think of this idea?
I am opposed if he continues in the warped vein of the movie. Virtually, none of TV is worth viewing anyway. How about doing a film about the abuse of Big Pharma medicine on human bodies and budgets?
