My Tzolkin calendar and the Mayan calendar controversy

The Sacred Tzolkin Mayan calendar refers to the 260-day cycle. It consists of 20-day signs called Glyphs combined with, a numbers from one to thirteen, called Tones. Each day has a name and a sign number, giving a total of 260 unique days, which is roughly nine months. The Classical calendar count has been observed and followed unchanged by Mayans for centuries. The Dreamspell calendar count is a new trend, it has been readjusted and doesn’t include the count of 29 February, so that a day number is different from Classical count by 50 days at the present time and it is causing much controversy.

In the New Dawn Jan-Feb 1999 issue No.52 appeared an interview with Jose Arguelles who is very well known by his academic standard and extensive work on the subject concerning ancient Maya. There is no doubt that his scientific credentials and knowledge on this subject deserves respect and appreciation. But perhaps not many people are aware of the error and controversy created by His “Dreamspell” and “The Thirteen Moon” calendars. His ideas are great, but even the best expert can make a mistake.

I refer to the counting of days, where in either calendar the 29 February is not included. The Sun rises and sets every day, so how can you say that the day does not exist? What about the people, who were born on these days, which, are not counted by these calendars. They don’t have a recognisable birthday as most people have, and so does this mean that they do not exist? There is great danger in our present New Age awareness society, people are trusting too much, not using discernment and they are following many causes without individual research. In many circumstances they are mislead because of their ignorance.

Jose Arguelles wrote in book the "Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement" quote:
“ As a consequence, in December 1989 they were made the discovery of the 12:60 - 13:20 timing frequencies. According to this discovery a single timing frequency governs the order of the galaxy right down to its atomic structure. This timing frequency is the fourth- dimensional order of reality, and on this planet was known only by the ancient Maya. This unifying timing frequency is the 13:20 thirteen galactic tones and 20 solar frequencies, codified as the Tzolkin or sacred calendar round of 260 days”, end of quote.
He points out the great importance of the Tzolkin’s 260- day cycle, yet promotes a 13-moon calendar which is a 364 -day cycle. In the interview with New Dawn Jan-Feb 99 on page 52 he says quote, “the Mayans mathematically knew the correct timing cycles of nature” and he admits that, “the Thirteen Moon Calendar is not really the Mayan calendar”. So why isn’t he promoting what the Mayans knew and what was aligned perfectly not only with the cycles of nature but also with the order of the galaxy. Why isn’t he promoting Classical Tzolkin?

Another issue is that Jose Arguelles is introducing his new calendar movement, by asking people to burn the present calendar. In the past Spanish Conquistadors burned and destroyed most of the Mayan culture and the Inquisition burned ancient knowledge. We should not repeat past mistakes and destroy our present achievements. Maybe not everything is perfect, but destroying it may create much greater disharmony. In nature things evolve, like spring transforms into summer. By bringing awareness of the Classical Tzolkin Mayan calendar we can transform the order of probable future realities.

Many years ago I was given The Dreamspell kit, then I read the book “The Mayan Factor” by Jose Arguelles, I was fascinated by it, especially the information about the Tzolkin being the Harmonic Module and Galactic Channel Resonant Model. I began to observe the Dreamspell calendar, but I had some doubts, that something wasn’t right, until I found on the Internet “Resonate.” that there existed another “Classical “count.

Later on I read books such as: the “Tzolkin Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies” by John Major Jenkins and “Jaguar Wisdom Mayan Calendar Magic” by Kenneth Johnson which confirmed my assumptions. These books contain easy to read long-term Classical calendars. You can become aware and gain a greater understanding of the Tzolkin Classical Mayan calendar the true 13 x 20 Matrix, by reading those books.
The popular 16-17 August 1987 Harmonic Convergence World Peace Meditation happened at the beginning of the new Tzolkin Classical True count; there were no significant days in the Dreamspell or the other calendars.

I compared my birthday 26 August 1953; in the Dreamspell count my symbols would be 5 Eagle kin 135, in the Classical count it was 8 Ben kin 73. Using another great book “The Mayan Oracle” by Ariel Spilsbury and Michael Bryner, I realised that the Classical count meant exactly what my birth sign represented. My personal research leads me to support the use of the Maya calendar Classical count. I found it to be the correct guiding force in my life. As I observe the Classical count of days I am convinced of its true value and I strongly believe in the need to promote the Tzolkin Classical calendar, the 260-day cycle. New Classical true count Tzolkin began on 9.9.2009 but in Dreamspell this day is marked as kin 49. This is because Dreamspell is not counting 29 February.
