Prophecies are not fulfilled, what to do now?
In this article I am questioning the nature of the prophecies done according to the Calleman’s interpretation of the Mayan calendar and the events held according to his visions. I am suggesting a critical outlook to what we understand from spiritual evolution. I believe we cannot neglect the traditional views on spiritual evolution and we need to be very cautious on not falling into the traps of our own egos. Finally I am offering a meditation of compassion as a practice of humility that potentially can help us to rise above our own illusions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has been long since the July 17 – 18 Conscious Convergence has passed and the 6th night of the Galactic Underworld will end in 38 days.
Let me remind ourselves that Dr.Calleman expected a huge economic downfall during the 6th night (November 8, 2009 – November 3, 2010) and following this prediction, big expectations occurred about major socio-economic events that would bring big changes. Although some economists still expect a second decline of economy and mass strikes in Greece, India, China, Spain, Romania and France give some impressions in this direction, I still cannot see major changes along the way.
However, even if all these major socio-economic changes predicted by the Mayan calendar would be manifesting, I will still have one question. How can we be sure that these events will lead to spiritual maturity and enlightenment of the humankind?
I think we, the Mayan calendar club members, are making a fundamental error. That is to ignore the nature of the spiritual evolution and think that everything will be done in the blink of an eye.
Yes we are aware that the Mayan calendar is not about forces that are separated from humanity such as Planet Nibiru, Pleiades, Photon belt, UFO's… etc. Therefore the Mayan calendar is not about a sudden catastrophe and it is not a savor in itself that will help us awaken automatically. It is all about processes that lead to evolution and I have to admit that the waves of the Galactic Underworld helped me tremendously to realize spiritual realities. I become more mature spiritually and this goes on in an exponential way. However the more wise I got the more I realized that I am far from being enlightened. What I realized is that a tangible spiritual transformation requires a feeling of complete surrender along with a tremendous aspiration, love, patience, determination, will power and awareness. Without these the spiritual awakening will not fully come the being and if it comes it will not last long.
To be able to see these facts it is enough to look at the traditional spiritual paths… Sufism, Yoga, Buddhism or Christian mysticism… All these traditions take years long disciplined and passionate practices as a foundation. Unfortunately these truths have been forgotten in the New Age culture of today. In Sufism there are 7 levels of the Nafs (Ego, being), in Christian mysticism the spiritual heart has 6 levels of depth; in Tantra there are different levels of grace. To be able to pass through these is requiring a life time, sometimes several life times… According to Ken Wilber, the spiritual seeker of today “wants to be cooked in a micro wave oven.” Think about how long it did take for Mevlana C. Rumi to be cooked.
The Mayan Calendar, in the way which is also interpreted by me, gives an impression that the enlightenment will happen in the speed of a micro wave oven and almost in an automatic way… This in fact is an illusion… The Mayan Calendar says that the conditions of the divine plan have never been so good for those who sincerely want to evolve and showing required efforts… It is only for those who act… An in fact the most fundamental action is to surrender completely… As the Hopis say, the ones who surrender themselves into the flow of the wild river are going to be evolving quickly… But truly, how many people can do it?
It is not possible to move on as long as one says “I am this body” or “I am this mind”… As one of the biggest sages of 20th century Nisargadatta Maharaj says “I am not this body, I am not this mind” then who am I? Maharaj replies as “I am That”… The conclusion is that the act of awareness, in other words the existence of consciousness is the Essence of God itself. However this beautiful teaching of Maharaj has been superficialized in the New Age movement. People who read his books forgot that he realized these truths in years long silent retreats and meditations. They started walking around saying “I am That.” With the “I am That” one person who is jealous, selfish, and full of fear in his subconscious became “That”. This is perhaps the biggest error on a mystical path… To take the ego and make it God…
This is why many people of the rush of modern life are getting lost, because they are trying to step forward in their own paths without receiving guidance from a true master… Spiritual evolution cannot stay as a hobby… If it stays as a hobby it cannot be spiritual evolution… To be able to experience true awakening in a bourgeois life is only available for an infinitesimal amount of people who are loved tremendously by God. Maybe one in a million. Well, are you that one in a million? If not, it is best to think over this very well. Do you want a mediocre life? Do you want a life that is shaped by your own selfish desires or is shaped as a channel for the manifestation of the Divine Will, lived in complete surrender? Your choice…
This is where my spiritual insights does not fit well with what we are doing suggested by Carl Calleman or similar experts on the topic of collective peace, oneness or evolution. If we are alerted only to think about the outer and deny the inner no real transformation can take place. Remember outside is significant for the left brain and inner is important for the right brain. If we want to synthesize our brain hemispheres we cannot ignore what the right brain wants. And I think most of the collective evolution events such as the Conscious Convergence and similar ones are coming from the left brain understanding. Although their intentions are right brainistic (focus on the collective) their methodology is left brainistic (focus on the outside). One has to realize that the so-called oneness consciousness cannot come, unless one has worked and found it on the inside.
Also one major illusion that we are prone to believe is that “we are doing something, for the Divine plan to manifest.” Divine plan does not need our efforts. The best effort we can do is to surrender completely… Not passively but offering our entire being which in fact is a big hassle… As Maharaj says, surrendering completely and awakening to our true self is enough for the world to change… Or as Gandhi says we can only “be the change that we want to see in the world.”
I send an email to Carl, with similar critiques and he affirmed “I have also stopped creating expectations about external changes,” and that he has shifted towards delivering a co-creator training where the emphasis is on reshaping our inner landscape of the world. I don’t know any details about the co-creator training that he is delivering and my current opinion is that it is debatable whether this training supplies real solutions to the spiritual crisis we are in.
Meditation of Compassion
Up until this point you might think that I am just a critic, criticizing negatively and providing nothing helpful. Well that’s not the case. Depending on my limited knowledge I am able to offer a simple method that may be a solution to the problem I identified.
Therefore I am going to offer a meditation that can be applied on the beginning of the 7th day (November 2-3, 2010), beginning of the Universal Underworld (February 10-11, 2011) or any day basically… This practice is the famous Tong Len from the Buddhist tradition… We can call this the meditation of compassion. I think compassion is what the world needs the most today. And it is hardly found… Therefore I am suggesting to do this meditation on any day or significant days according to the Mayan calendar… One recent opportunity is doing it on One Peace Jerusalem day, September 26, 2010.
Well then, what is this meditation of compassion? We usually live our lives in a shell. Things about ourselves are often on their ways, our money, health, psychology, relationships… But not always… When things go wrong we either lose hope or say “Damn it!”
This is not the case for those who bring the spiritual heart into the center of their lives. In Sufism, Love is likened to a rose with its thorns… To lead a real life without accepting the sorrow is impossible. According to a Sufi life is about having joy when sorrow appears…
This Buddhist meditation is not different… Having compassion starts from our own selves… Now please sit down in a silent and calm way and close your eyes (after reading this of course)… Focus on your breathing for a while… Observe how the breath goes in and out of your chest… Just observing your breath for a while will calm down your mind…
Then focus on the feelings that awaken in your chest area… Focus on your spiritual heart, the source of love… According to Sufism and many other mystical paths the source of our being lies in here… The path leads to Divine love also passes from here… Feel this love, be aware of it…
When you live with this awareness for a while you can go in a different spiritual state… And if you get lost in this love, it is ok (Be aware, not in your mind)… Try it another time and try moving to the net step that I will explain in a bit…. But even if you cannot move on to that state, this is still good because our world needs so much love… As I said earlier it might take long practices to reach more advanced states…. Patience, patience, patience…
When your focus is on this feeling of love contemplate on your own being… Look at yourself from outside… See your weaknesses, pains and problems… And every time you inhale bring these weaknesses, pains and problems into your spiritual heart… Share your own pain with yourself… Tears can come, this is very natural…
Every time you exhale, give yourself love…
So simple, at every inhale take in the pain to your spiritual heart, at every exhale send yourself the love that comes from your spiritual heart…
In this meditation the second state is about doing the same work for someone you love… Do it for someone significant for you, who are in a difficult situation…
On the third stage do this meditation for someone that you don’t know, someone that is neutral for you. A beggar you see on the street or someone else who is in a difficult situation… If you cannot think of someone just think of millions of people suffering in Pakistan…
On the fourth stage do this mediation for someone who is your enemy. Do it for someone whom you have anger or hatred, or someone that you quarreled with.
On the final stage do it for people whom you think are the Devil itself…
It is very difficult to pass on these stages at once… Move step by step. If you do it 15-20 minutes every day, you will progress a lot… It might take days, weeks or months to move onto the next stages… Don’t lose your hope… as you move on you will get surprised about how the technique helps you to move beyond your ego and open you heart… Also you may get spiritually more and more mature… This will help you to live a life with complete surrender and with an open heart…
I just want to share a story for inspiration…
Once a wise man was walking in the forest… He sees a tiger and her babies… Mother tiger is so tired and hungry that she lies almost unconscious... She has no more vital energy for going on hunting… With compassion wise man extends his arm to the mouth of the tiger… However the tiger is so weak that she cannot chew the man’s arm… Man notices this and opens a wound in his arm and drops blood to the tigers mouth… So that the tiger gains some power to be able to chew… According to the story this man, the tiger and her babies are born as the nearest disciples of Buddha…
Wishing you a beautiful weekend and blessed transformations,

disagreing on some points :)
I disagree with some of your article.
If one can achieve it on his own, even if it took him years, or a lifetime, why would someone else be unable to do it alone, and faster?
Now, I am not talking microwave fast, but believing in re-incarnation and cycles, who's to say that most of us are not on the verge of evolution (I do not believe in reaching enlightenment as we are born that way, we are just made to forget that).
I also do not believe that anyone ever needs a middleman, or master.
However, I do believe we grow easier and faster as a group, or a whole...
Put two fires together, they will become one bigger fire, separate the two fires, they will remain bigger than they were.
There is one other small issue, nobody is 100% certain of when the calendar ends, many even say that like our calendar, it simply restarts, or continue, or never ends.
Think of it as a fractal division, remember, each cycles are part of the last cycle in the calendar, but what if the whole calendar is also included in the last cycle? Food for thoughts :)

Dear Michael,

If you can do it, let me know and I will be your disiciple...

That's right, some souls have worked a lot in their previos lives and it is easier for them in this life time. Simply look at children. Why some of them are much wiser than others?
I agree that enlightenment is not something to be reached... You are THAT, allready... But look at the life of Maharaj who says "I am That". He didnt have that attainment in the blink of an eye...
I also do not believe that anyone ever needs a middleman, or master.

It's your choice to believe in whatever you want. My responsibility is to ask you: "How can you be sure that it's not your ego who says that?"

I agree, spiritual communites work a lot. But merely coming together does not work believe me. I experienced that and realized that if people are not working on themselves diligently no real progress happens.

Good food for thoughts...

That would imply one is "better" than another, Master-teacher /disciple - I prefer to see everyone as teachers to each others :)

I see your point and I agree, but as my previous response just above, it's merely to avoid having a hierarchy, all should be equal teachers, regardless of assumed "ranks". If all are equals, with no ranks or title, then no one can be in power and corrupt the whole system. Think of it as a religious/spiritual group, if you have a hierarchy, there must be a "top", if the top gets corrupted, the whole organization ends up corrupted eventually. But if there are no decision makers, no hierarchy, no masters, no disciples, everyone as a both a student and a master to everyone else, I believe this removes the middle man and so on :).

Maybe I misworded my point, but working as a group was not meant to say you should not do any work on yourself :).

Oh really? Let imagine that you are a native Spanish speaker and the only word I know is Amigos... Could I be your Spanish teacher?
Second point:
In spirituality the hierarchy can never be corrupted... Look at Dalai Lama and the whole Tibetan culture... He is found out as a little child and they put him on the throne... He is there because he is the Dalai Lama... What corruption did he do? What corruption did any Dalai Lama's had before him... If he was not in power the whole Tibetan nation would be running around like headless chickens when the Chinese invaded Tibet...
What you are talking about it is a mere utopia... The hippy culture and the new age spirituality relies on this.. We see what results are achieved... There are equal ignorants...
"How can a blind man can guide a blind man?" :)
Few words about the term "master"... It doesnt mean the master of the slave... It comes from the French "maestro"... Think about a symphony orchestra... Without the maestro the orchestra wouldnt properly play the composition. Spiritual Maestro has a similiar function... Because he knows what you dont know he can guide you into where he is... He knows exactly what you need... If he says tempo, tempo, allegro... and you keep playing what you want to play, no results can be achieved... :)
I think this tradition in the spiritual cultures are absolutely valuable... I am not saying that no one can achieve enlightenment without a Guru, but it is very rare...
Maybe I misworded my point, but working as a group was not meant to say you should not do any work on yourself :).

You didnt misworded your point. This is what usually happens in spiritual groups... People start judging others and not look at themselves and/or work on themselves... The harmony in a spiritual group can be achived best when there is a spiritual master... Like in the buddhist, sufi, yogic and other mystic environments...
By the way I forgot to mention, and I think this is really relevant: It's not different in the Mayan culture... Think about why they have a council of elders? Think why that council have a leader, and so on...
