Evil Spirits Updated

I am sad to report that the employee who fell from the roof of one of the buildings at Casa Guatemala has died this week. He was in a coma for 20 days and was unable to regain consciousness from his fall. The funeral and burial services took place over an intense 2 day period following his death.

It was only the day before his death that the Maya Priest had returned again for his 4th visit to Casa Guatemala to try to displace the Evil Spirits that he feels exist here. Interestingly during his second visit a large snake was seen in the rafters above his head and was subsequently killed. Just before his second visit a large tree collapsed and crashed through the roof of the teacher house. Fortunately no one was hurt from the crashing tree.

For those of you who follow my blog, it was last August that one of our teachers was killed in a motorcycle accident. Now this August a worker was killed while doing repair work. What will happen next August??

I will be here to find out. I have just committed to stay here through October 2012. They have asked that I help as a Volunteer Co-ordinator and help with the transitioning of volunteers to Casa Guatemala. This includes support roles between the volunteers and the school itself. As I have been a teacher here for the past two years and have been living in the teacher house, I have developed a friendship with all of the teachers. Because of the way that Casa Guatemala re-organized there have been some issues with the actual roles of the volunteers in relation to the teachers and the children. Tomorrow I will be implementing a program where each volunteer will be assigned to a teacher and will attend classes given by the teacher. I believe this will resolve some of the issues that exist.

Stay tuned for another entry on "por que tu no sabes nada". This is an interesting storyline on my relation with the students.

Namaste,

Chac
