LOVE & ABUNDANCE

The word "chocolate" is thought to come from a combination of the Yucatec Maya "chokol", which means "hot" and the Nahuatl word "atl", which means "water".

The Classic Period Maya are considered to be the first civilization to discover the secret of cacao.  They ground and roasted the cacao beans, then mixed them with chili peppers, cornmeal, water and other ingredients to make a foamy, spicy drink that was favored by Maya royalty and played a key role in special rituals and events.  Cacao seeds were presented as offerings to the gods, and chocolate was served during sacred ceremonies.
